Roadworks, before you reach them

Motocamp Australia, 5 November 2026

Hi there,

Big roadworks can add a real wait to a trip. Motocamp now tells you about them when you plan, and again on the road, across Australia.

1Roadworks on your plan

When you plan a trip, Motocamp checks the roads it'll take you on for roadworks that hold traffic up. If it finds any, your trip summary says so in one line, with the road names and about how long to allow. Tap it to see what's going on there, like contraflow at 40 km/h. It only counts works on roads you'll actually drive, so a job on a side street you cross stays out of it. Pick a date for your trip and it checks the works for that day.

2A heads up on the road

In navigation, you'll hear about each stretch of roadworks once, about a minute and a half before you get there. At 60 km/h that's around 1.5 km out, and at 100 km/h it's about 2.5 km. A short note shows on screen at the same time, just under your next turn. If one job runs for kilometres, like a reseal along a highway, you get one heads up for the whole stretch. That leaves time to settle in for the wait or take another road.

3Which roadworks count

Motocamp speaks up for works that stop or slow you: stop/go traffic, temporary lights, contraflow, two or more lanes shut, or a detour on your road. A single lane coned off, mowing or line marking still shows on the map, but stays quiet. Across Australia, the app reads each road authority's own notice to tell which is which. Where a notice doesn't say what the job does to traffic, as with many Victorian works, it stays on the map without a heads up. On the Adelaide trip in the picture, Traffic SA lists 55 roadworks along the way, and one of them holds you up. Set working hours aren't read yet, so check the notice if you're heading out at night.

Getting the update

The app updates itself. Close Motocamp fully, open it again with a signal before you head out, and give the map a few seconds. The new version loads on a fresh open, never partway through a trip.

If a heads up doesn't match what you find on the road, send the road name to support@motocamp.org and I'll check it.
